I kicked off the ’09 wedding season last weekend in style and in the snow! That’s right, the SNOW!

I traveled to Marietta, GA to shoot Christine and Austin’s wedding, and I must say they could be the bravest/most go-with-the-flow bride and groom ever! Seriously, it was FREEZING outside and all Christine ever asked for was her fur wrap every now and then to cover her bare arms and prevent them from hypothermia. Austin was a trooper too, but he at least had a coat on the whole time.

I love shooting outdoor weddings, especially in the early fall when the heat is not unbearable. The ceremony and reception took place in the lower outdoor section of the Kilgore Lewis House, and the weather was perfect (despite Greenville’s all star cast of meteorologists’ prediction of rain…)

It was a very laid back day and every aspect of the wedding seemed to just flow, thus making my job much easier.

I enjoyed being able to capture their special day. I was honored to be a part of such an exclusive event (seriously they only allowed family to attend, very Hollywood!!!)

One of the key ideas I have taken from [b]ecker is the idea of networking with other photographers and vendors in the area. His philosophy is “a rising tide raises all ships” and he encourages building community amongst wedding vendors. He tries to have lunch with one vendor each week and talk through ideas and get to know more about the person and their business. This leads to referrals on both ends and helps to improve both quantity and quality of business for everyone.

This is something that I am going to try to be more intentional about. I am not an extroverted person and networking does not come naturally to me. I’m still not sure exactly how I will go about networking, but I presume I will simply seek out people and businesses in the area and try to set up times to hang out with them. I have no ulterior motives for this, I just want to meet more people in the industry. I love working for myself and I do not mind working alone, however I would love to be able to have a “working relationship” with other people.
