Cicely & Javier

I took a little road trip through the country roads of South Carolina to photograph Cicely and Javier’s wedding in Modoc, SC. Cicely and Javier live in Madrid, Spain. Cicely’s father is retired from the Navy, and she was born in Japan and moved all over the world growing up. She is now a teacher in Spain, where she and Javier met.

It was a very cool wedding with a nice blend of traditional southern culture and international flare. The ceremony was in a small “white chapel style” church, which had tons of character. They managed to legally smuggle some great food and wine in from Spain, so the food at the reception was top notch.

I would have liked to have taken more shots outdoors. It was a beautiful, clear day, however the wind was blowing at hurricane-force speeds and the temperature decided to take a plunge as well.

All in all, I had a great time. I welcome the opportunity to take a road trip and shoot unique weddings.

Here’s my favorite shot of the day.

Chasen

A few weeks ago, I mentioned photographing Chasen for their debut album. I’ve waited a while to post some shots on my website. I wanted to wait until they made their final selects and got their album promotion and distribution deal worked out.

Well…they recently signed a distribution deal with EMI and their album will hit nationwide on April 15th (one day after my birthday, FYI). I would strongly encourage you to go here and pre-order the album or visit your favorite music store, whether it be virtual or physical, and pick up a copy of the album. Then you can brag to your friends about the fact that you know the guy who did all of the photography, just kidding, but seriously get the album. These guys are talented and have worked their tails off touring and supporting their radio singles.

We had a great time working on this project and spent a couple of late nights getting some great shots. We shot everything in August, when it was “surface-of-the-sun” temperatures in SC, but the guys wanted to wear layers of clothing and sweaters to make it more appropriate for a February release, which was unfortunately delayed 2 months. I was drenched wearing shorts and a t-shirt, so these guys took one for the team to get these shots. Sean Madden, who desperately needs a portfolio website for me to link to right now, did an amazing job as the creative director for the shoot and designer for the album layout. If you are interested in his services, let me know and I’ll hook you up with his info.

Here’s one of my many favorite shots.

Go time

Wedding season officially began for me this past Saturday. I took a road trip to Modoc, SC (near Augusta, GA) to photograph Cicely & Javier’s wedding. It was a cool wedding, I’ll post some shots later this week. Basically it had a small country wedding feel with a lot of Spanish flavor (both bride and groom live in Spain.)

I’m excited about the next four months. They are definitely going to be busy, but I welcome that. I am getting very excited about this weekend when I get the opportunity to shoot my good friend Anthony “Train” Fontaine’s wedding. It will be good to be back in Birmingham and see old friends. I can’t wait…

Check back tomorrow and hopefully I will post a couple of shots from Saturday. Also, my desire to update some of my gear is getting stronger, so there’s a good chance I will be spewing technical questions about cameras, etc. later this week and asking for your advice, so tune in and help a brother out.

I’m off to begin sorting through the thousands of photos from Saturday, courtesy of my trigger happy index finger.
